What if you had a "bank" where your charactors could leave their weapon and gold for your other charactors to pick up and use.

Unfortunately, that won't happen.
First for the gold. Well you can have an unlimited amount of gold on you and you never lose them, even if you die, so no need for a bank.
As for storing items, no matter if they're in your backpack, or in a bank, you will still need to store them in a database. And AE already stated that even adding 1 item slot for everyone is giving a lot of difficulties to the servers. Your backpack is already a bank with 20 slots in itself. Having more space is a privilege as you're paying for the fact that you will ask more for the servers. As you may know, AE is quite small and don't have the servers of big gaming company...so even adding a 10-spaces bank for everyone (and for free), might make the server crash (and from what we saw in the past few weeks with the servers crashing all the time, we can't really ask for more efforts from them)

Well maybe, but there could be some kind of abuse with DC items

I see what you mean. Maybie we should only include paying players in this addon?

If we do that, welcome in the hell of whiny free-players saying that everything is unfair for them. Anyway, since DF is a single player game, trading is not something logical to do (any hints of multiplayer would be out of place)
And anyway, a topic like yours was created on AE DF forum, and Rolith posted himself saying that it will not happen. So I guess that's that
