DragonCon Panel!
This just in.... it looks like AQ/MQ/DF will be holding our first ever panel* at DragonCon in Atlanta Geogia that takes place in August of this year. We have been going for the past few years as our big "yearly vacation". I will be there with Cysero, Warlic, Galanoth, Safiria, Geo, Zhoom, Rolith, Nythera, Thyton, and possibly Aisha and Korin (Collin got a name!) We reserved a HUGE suite, so we are awefully tempted to throw a Party**. If we do this we will certainly make a post to let you know***! It is... <checks watch> half a year away yet, so lots of time. FORUM QUESTION: What should the name and subject of our panel be? Here are my suggestions:


"How many things taste great with Bacon -- hosted by Cysero!"
"Massivly multiplayer games.... and other things we did not make"
"How to draw photorealistic stick figures" - hosted by Thyton
...any ideas?

* ... and after how badly I am destined to embarrass myself, it is likely to be our last!
**Party: A RPG likely to form up and hunt undead and bring down a boss monster for epic lewts! Sort of like what will be happening in DragonFable on Friday <ducks from Cysero and Geo's stare>
*** Something ELSE you should know -- Artix does not drink, nor smoke, nor do drugs. Expect any parties he throws together to be PG13 and just like the games... powered by caffine and bad puns... all disputes will be solved with stat rolls.

More On Dragon Coins.

So, we've got news. After the varied responses and amazingly large amount of players who were confused by the very concept of a Dragon Coin return policy, and several days of furious work from Zhoom and Rolith, we have come up with an idea should make you guys pretty pleased with us.

Here is the new Dragon Coin sell-back policy:

Once you buy a DC item you will have 24 hours from the time of purchase to return the item for 90% of the original cost. AFTER THAT, the DC item will have a flat 25% DC sell back.

But wait... there's more. As of THIS FRIDAY, Feb 1, 2008 (when the new sell-back goes into effect) we will ALSO be reaching back into the past and giving you a 25% refund for ANY Dragon Coin item that you have destroyed in the last 9 months!

It breaks down like this: After this Friday, if you buy a DC item, you will have 24 hours from that minute to return the item to any vendor in the game for 90% of it's original DC price. After that, (24 hours and one minute) the item will sell back for 25% of its original cost. This applies for any item in the game except stackable items like Dragon Chow.

But wait... there's more. We will also be releasing some new DC items in Cysero's Superstore of Savings... and at least one new quest in Zhoom's zone. Probably two new quests.

In order to retroactively refund 25% of every destroyed item's price for the last 9 months we will have to take the game down for about 20 minutes. We're planning on doing that pretty early on Friday morning (like 2-4 am server time). We' apologize in advance for the interruption in game play.

But wait... there's more! No... wait. I was mistaken. There isn't more. That's it. You can go now.

The Deady Mobile
We recieved a package in the mail today! But first.... a flashback! *Wavy flashback TV special FX... feel free to make do the sound at home* Last year we created the Deady Minigame for Voltaire (The dark and spooky singer/artist/evil-overlord who did the song "BRAINS" for the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and many other tongue in cheek songs.) He sent Safiria and I a present..... THE DEADY MOBILE!


The first... YES, that is art from the game we made on the box (SO COOL!). Second, YES... that is a real honest to goodness Hot Wheels Logo -- in fact, this limited edition set was created for the Hotwheels Custom Car Show in Osaka, Japan. Only 2,000 were produced and... .we have no idea how anyone would get one since they were only being sold in Japan (to the best of our knowledge) As I am sure you can believe, it is pretty wild seeing something in real life materialize with our art! We are going to start a shelf where we are going to put all of the things we have created (one of each: Zorbak, Twilly, each T-shirt, and what is left of this miniature herse full of skeletons after I excorcise it. *smiles* I love my job! (And congratulations Voltaire, and thank you very much for the gift!)

New Boss Monster in DragonFable this week!
The feedback on Zhoom's zone has been incredible. The game is truly back on path as you and your fellow players are now in search of the Elemental Orbs, keeping them out of Sepulchure's evil grasp. This week, the team is working on a special battle for you! ...I am getting a very stern stare from Geo, Cysero, Rolith and Zhoom --- so I better stop here. I will say this... WE CANNOT THINK OF A SINGLE OTHER GAME THAT HAS EVER DONE THIS BEFORE. If it has been, I am going to feel silly... but this feels like a world first -- Coming this Friday!

Happy Birthday, Cap!

That's right, today Captain Rhubarb is one year older. Join us in wishing him a happy birthday by sporting Rhubarb's Birthday Hat available in Patch's barber shop in Falconreach (it's still free).

We're still working on today's release. I'll tell you that it will probably be 2 quests in Zhoom's quest chain furthering the plot line in The Sandsea as you and Zhoom team up to capture one of the most elusive members of the reisitance. The first of the two will have a puzzle mini-game built into the quest. It's not hard to figure out but hopefully it will show you heroes down a little. There will be a few new monsters which is fantastic considering that Ghost has been sick all week. There will be some new Free and DA weapon drops as well.

We'll let you know as soon a we've rolled out the new quests (which will probably be in several hours)

UPDATE: The release is live folks! Head to The Sandsea and talk to Zhoom to continue your search for the Orb of Light. The resistance needs YOU!

Downtime.

Zhoom is taking the game down right now to refund 25% of everyone's destroyed itme DC's. He says It should take half an hour *starting 3:47 PM server time*.

We will have DragonFable back up ASAP and sorry again for the interruption in game play.

So....

Anyone got any cards?

UPDATE: Zhoom says that it take longer than he expected to get the game back up and running. We will give you updates as soon as we know more, and post as soon as the game goes live again.

UPDATE: Zhoom says that something is wrong with the refund code and taking far longer than expected. The refund will be delayed but the game will be returned to normal functionality. Sorry, guys. False alarm.

Zhoom is currently working on the code to find the bugs, and will have the refunds for you as soon as he can. In the mean time, if the bug gave one of you 2,469,093,210 Dragon Coins... just let us know.

UPDATE: The game is back up! DC Sell Back is LIVE! The refunds are still going to be a while. It really depends on how hard the bug is to track down, but you WILL get your retroactive refunds as soon as possible.

UPDATE: The first reports are coming in from people who are selling DC items that they've been hanging onto for a long time. The current versions of these drops have been converted to gold drops, but the old versions will still have the DC sell-back.

Your Left Sock.

I had a great idea.

This is where you go "uh oh".

And then I say: No, it's cool. Check this out. We're all really excited about DragonCon even though it's still 6 months away. I've been the last 2 years and both years were legendary.

My first year we met Stratos, a DF player for whom the Stratospheric Tachi was created. The next year we got to hang out with Stratos again and we got to meet about six other players. This year, I am expecting no less than 2 billion DragonFable players at D-Con. I might be over-estimating a little bit.

BUT, if you A) plan on going to DragonCon, B) are able to find me there C) come up to me and ask-for / demand your left sock and D) give me your character ID.... When I get back from D-Con I will drop a special "Left Sock" supe-rare DragonCon only item into your character's backpack. I'm not sure what it will do yet. Maybe it will be a sock themed bacon element pet. I might also give you your left sock back in person.

Super Secret Design Notes of Rock!

Hi everyone! This week's update is out and rolling! So far everyone seems to really like it, which is awesome. ^^ The Mumragon* (drawn by Thyton, colored by Oishii and animated by Ghost) is one of the most detailed monsters we have in the game and he looks simply amazing!

For this fight only, we've also implemented the long awaited Invite A Friend code (thanks to Rolith and zhoom)! Once you make your way through hordes of scarabs and face the huge and imposing Mumragon you will be able to invite two of your friends characters and have them fight alongside you as guests in one of the coolest fights yet**!



We also added a whole bunch of new weapons and a brand new pet to Cysero's Superstore of Savings! 15 new weapons in all, ranging from level 6 to level 34, as well as a new level 19 pet, SandCrabz. Make sure to check them out!



* I voted to call him the Dragummy, but it seemed too much like a candy.
** If fire dragon breathe fire and ice dragons breathe ice, what do mummified dragons breathe? ;D

P.S. It's 6:40PM server time, since it's Saturday, I bet no one will see these until Monday. ;D

DA Testing Weekend!

I have news. Unfortunately the Ranger class took longer than we thought it would.



So this weekend we are releasing this class for testing by DragonAmulet holders only! Much like the Deathknight armor this class will need to be rebalanced, and we hope that we can count on all of our DA holders to help us test this new class armor, and give us the same kind of valuable feedback that we've come to expect from you guys.

Once it has been tested and tweaked, it will be released to all players as a normal armor (like the pirate or ninja armor) Next weekend.

Right now Ghost is animating his brains out and Zhoom's fingers are flying getting the armor functional so that we can release it for testing today. Cross your fingers. Once it has been released, it will be available through Zhoom in The Sandsea and you will have to level it like any normal armor with Ancient Treasures (which drop from Zhoom's random quests), but for the next seven days, it will only be available to DragonAmulet holders.

I will announce here, on the homepage and a post will be made on the forums as soon as the class has been rolled live... hopefully today.

We do have some other releases coming your way. These are DEFINITELY coming out today! A lot of people have been wondering about that draft coming from under the bookshelf in Damien's office! Geo has built a new quest that drops two brand new never-before seen helms. Who remembers what is located directly underneath Falconreach?





I haven't had a lot of time to build weapons lately so I made time this week. Other than make some new weapons for you guys to fill the gaps in Cysero's Superstore of Savings... including, my personal favorites, the Cysero's Defender Sword, Staff and Daggers! These will be DragonFable's FIRST level 40 weapons! See if you can guess which one of these is Cysero's Defender Sword....



Once again, we may not be getting the class out for DA testing today, but we will do our best! These rest of the updates will be coming your way in the next few hours!

Busy Signals.

We've been very busy lately. So busy that I haven't had time to check up on my web favorites. It had been nearly a month since I'd been able to check up on SweetAfton23 (QUIT SPAMMING HER!). Based on her latest song (the one about MySpace) I once again proposed marrige. I don't expect a "yes".

We hired a new animator yesterday. Once Ghost finishes putting her through AE Animator Boot Camp she will be a big help. She hasn't chosen her name yet but as soon as she does we will announce her.

Let me tell you a bit about what we ARE working on. I got to make several new staff's yesterday. Geo has been building most of the weapons lately (and I'm glad that you've been really happy with the art) but I missed making weapons too much and had to rip some out. Hopefully I will be putting several MORE weapons in the Superstore to give you something new and shiny to spend your DC refund on.

Who wants a Ranger class? Geo and the rest of the staff have also been working on RANGER skills! Miltionoius is doing the art right now and hopefully Ghost will be able to get then animated for Friday's release. We will not be adding Bows to the game as a weapon that you can equip but MANY of the ranger skills will use a bow built into the class.

Rolith is working on a bombing minigame that will go into Oaklore for the newer players to play around with. We're also working on a new NPC who will be moving into Oaklore Keep... a retired DragonLord! You get to fly his dragon in the bombing minigame. If the MQ release goes as planned we should be able to get that in the game on Friday too.

Next week is Hero's Heart Day again and we're bust prettifying up some of DF's scarrier monsters for you. Big Daddy will be returning with a few new tricks!

One thing that DF is missing in a guild/house system. AQ has Paxia and MQ now has the 3 Houses (Mystraven, WOOT!) and DF is missing something like this. Artix and I were talking about it and I'm curious what ideas you have for opposing factions that you'd like to join. We don't want to use Elements because we'd like to give you something that AQ hasn't. Good, Evil and Balance won't work. 2/3rds of you guys would get behind evil, the other third would support good, and balance would just be an empty room.

As a reward for chosing a side we were thinking about giving the players (among other unl;ockable rewards) new, awesome armors for your base class. Why look like every other Warrior when you can have the special Warrior armor? No new skills, just new art.

This guild system won't be going into the game on Friday, but we'd still like to know what you guys think... what interesting concepts you'd come up with. Let us know on the forums.

This pile of work may not seem like much to you guys, but I assure you that it is. We may not be able to get ALL of this out as planned but now you know what we HOPE to release anyway.

A gamers best friend....
When I was in 5th grade, the teacher called on me a lot*. The boy in front of me became very upset every time my name "Adam" was called and I answered. I had no idea why.... then, one time, after the teacher called on "Adam" the boy in front of me stood up and nearly yelled, "My last name is ADAMS, not ADAM!". It was like someone hit the pause button for the world as we all stood there in completely silence and shock. The teacher smiled and replied to the boy, "Yes JD, your last name is Adams. However, I was talking to Adam, who sits behind you." ...and that is how I met JD. Of course, you know him better as Warlic!

In middle school Warlic and I became good friends. *chuckles* He impressed me by showing that he was reading Bram Stroker's Dracula. I invited him over to my house where I had just gotten my first computer and in a single sitting we made a animated ascii game called Raistlin vs. the DragonLord. It was basically a bunch of old ascii blocks (Good ol' Chararacter 219) that were colored and was supposed to be a knight who shot a fireball out of his hand at the dragon. Now, I never read DragonLance and got it all wrong... so the Dragon was a "lord" named "raistlin". Whoops! The graphics were sorta like this. Believe it or not, the game we made that day was pretty much a primitive version of AdventureQuest written in Basic. That was around the time my game making obsession started. Warlic and I both tried to learn as much as we could. By highschool VGA graphics were around and he programmed a game called Jimmy the Eye in pascal. Jimmy the eye originated in a comic he used to draw while we were in German class. So now you are in on the secret that Jimmy the Eye (the minigame on EbilGames and the pet in DragonFable) was a special thing from our childhood. (Of course the untold story also involving child-stuff is that his wife was in labor and he was driving her to the hospital to have the baby... and we were on the phone talking about the last changes to the minigame -- BAD BAD BAD!) Back to the story -- We were both into drawing, programming, games and even after we both of our families moved hours in opposite directions we continued making games together via and an irresponsilibly huge phone bill that got me in trouble each and every month. I made a drawing program in highschool that we used to build graphics like this**. This is a pretty long story so I will skip the details... Warlic decided to follow music as his passion when we got to college and I followed computer games. That was a difficult time for me. We always stayed good friends and had many great adventures, but it was no fun building all of the never-finished games without his help. I never gave up though, and I did create a game! (This is where you showed up in my life)

A long time later, after AdventureQuest was created Warlic helped with soundFX and a lot of music that never ended up going into the game (Bandwidth is ebil... but now that we have a gigabit pipe we should post some for you to hear!) The song from the Artix vs the Undead short was a remake of my favorite song from his band when he was in Highschool (I think I mentioned that before... DUUU NAAA naaa naaa DUUU NAAA naaa naaa DAAAAA NAAAA naaaa NAAAA) Warlic was working for a music-based cell phone game development company and I saw an opportunity....

AND THAT, is when Zhoom came and told me that I had to go. See you tomorrow! (To be continued***)

* She may have through she was throwing me an easy question to boost my low self esteem, but I always ended up answering incorrectly... giving the class another chance to get a good laugh at my expense. I had a very rough time in school and was made fun of a lot... especially for being "weird" because I talked about ghosts, vampires, and giant robots all the time. On a side note, the first story I ever wrote was in 2nd grade called "The Live Robot". I do not have the story any more... but I am pretty sure it was about a Robot... who was... alive. And not the Johnny 5 alive... I think I wanted an organic machine that was sentient and likely to take over the world through genetic engineering.... so, um... where was I?
** One guess for who drew the DeathKnight.... and for the record, you had to draw with the keyboard. You changed color by pressing 1 to 9 and used the arrow keys to move the cursor and turned it on/off by hitting "D" -- for Draw!

Snow has melted!
The sun shines brightly in a beautiful green Falconreach once again! Just in time for Valen Tidus to join us next week... (For the record, Snugglebears make us all shiver more than the cold.)
Ranger Class Testing.... UH OH!
There was a slight... tiny... miniscule....barely noticable.... alright, we are doomed**. There are significant game-crashing, world ending, apololyptic issues with the Ranger class. Which means.... *nods* that is right... we are going to release it for testing anyway! There is a catch though -- girl characters who puts on the armor will be transformed into into boys!


Dear female DragonFable players,

We sincerely apologize for turning you into males when you don the powerful armor of a ranger. The theme song for this release should be Arrow-smiths hit song, "Lady looks like a dude." Actually.. it gets better. If you are a girl... this will shrink your head too (You can pretend to have a super high pitched voice...) Also, there is a color customization issue which means the skin on your arms may be a bizzare color too. Also, your character may... well, <gulps>, nevermind that. Fear not, for monday we will release the proper female-looking (and likely still bugged) class! DragonFable testing weekends are THE BEST!

** Rolith went through the Male Ranger class frame by frame fixing each individual movieclip and adjusted the skills to work with the file in order to get this up for you today (Cheers for Rolith!) Galanoth came up with the idea of sticking the female head on the male version to allow female characters to test the armor while we work on the female version. Despite the gender distortion issues.... the class is really awesome! It will be in DA-only testing

Our very own game cards!?
This is some of the most exciting news I have gotten to post... We are working with a game card company to put DragonFable / AdventureQuest / MechQuest upgrade cards on the actual, honest to goodness store shelfs of Target stores!

Does this mean we get to say that our games are sold in stores now? (Everything suddenly feels so strangely real and official!) Now, if you can upgrade online, please do... because we do not make as much if you buy an upgrade card in the stores. However, if you are not able to upgrade online, this is will be a great way to get your DragonAmulet. We priced them the same so it is fair for everyone. This first run is a test and will only be available at Target which is a chain in the states. If things go well, we will try to get it in more stores (especially for those of you in other countries!) Cross your fingers for us... AND OMG OUR STUFF IS GOING TO BE HANGING ON A SHELF IN A REAL STORE! Five years ago, no one would have believed me if I said our characters would be in a real store. Thank you for helping to make this happen!

Ranger Class Update!
We are currently working on the female version of the armor. Cysero, Rolith and Ghost wanted me to tell you that they are still fixing the animation and bugs so it may be up tomorrow depending on their progress. They also wanted me to thank you very much for helping to test and all of your feedback. The damage and mana usages do indeed need to be adjusted and a number of bugs need squished (Hard to hit them with the arrows!)

Or, if you already have that someone special in your life it is the day to show your love and grand appreciation for them*. We have honored this day by doing what we do best... by poking fun of it in each of our three games for you!

"Heros Heart Week" Starts Friday!!!!!!
Tomorrow we will be launching the most embarrasing quest ever put into the game. For those of you who just found DragonFable this year.... well.... *looks to the veterans and shares a smile* this will be a treat! To those of you who have endured the unbearable tortune of what is to come before, we added two new Dragon Amulet quests with a very cool rare drop and a brand new Titan battle for you to enjoy! Cysero even drew and colored the new boss monster... he just confided in me that at one point he considered being a medical illustrator. (This will be funnier tomorrow, promise!)

LOOK! It's HERO'S HEART DAY! Run for you LIFE!

The update is LIVE!

Ah, Rolith just informed me that he changed every character sheet in the game to HIS character sheet, By the tim you read this that will be repaired.

Hero's Heart Day has once again fallen upon us, and everyone knows that the hardest falls have to do with Love! You can get to the Forest of Infinite Terror to visit Big Daddy by clicking the button in Falconreach. This year, in addition to defeating pink elementals and delivering gifts and love notes to the forever-heart-broken residents of the forest... Big Daddy also needs your help with a rather secret mission. This quest chain will give you a little insight into Big Daddy's past and introduce you to a new really really really gross villain, but the chain is only available to DragonLords.

If you ARE a DragonLord, Big Daddy's Stylin' hat and the new Cherub Wings (they have sparklies) drop from the titan fight at the end og the mini-quest chain OR you can pick them up from my Superstore. These are Holiday items and will vanish from the store when Hero's Heart Day (week) is over!

In addition to last year's season rare weapons, there are 12 brand new items available in Big Daddy's shop, some of which are free and some of which are DA only.

Ghost (who has been animating amazing monsters, classes and cutscenes for us for OVER a year now) added 2 new "attacks" to the Snuggle-Bear armor that you can get from Big-Daddy.

The RANGER class is now live in The Sandsea. Thanks a lot to all the DragonLords who helped us test, debug and balance the armor before its live release. We couldn't do this without your help. Talk to Zhoom to begin your training today if you haven't already.

Getting Our Hands Dirty

We asked you what you thought we should name the new dwarven NPC, and you gave us about twenty total pages of great ideas to sort through but finally we've made our choice.


Ladies and Gents, allow me to introduce Douglas Digg.

Forum member and free player Issac suggested Doug Dig (we added another G) and we fell in love. For those of you who don't remember there was once an arcade game called Dig Dug in which you played a little guy tunneling his way through the earth, inflating the monsters found hidden therein until they popped and collecting the various goodies that only miners and geologists can really appreciate. Like rocks.

This wasn't an official contest but for making us laugh until we stopped we'll be dropping 500 Dragon Coins on your level 40 warrior, Issac. Great job!

We've begun mapping out the first 5 levels of the Lymcrest Labyrinth, which will be released on Friday. We are trying to add some new functionality here which will make grabing a treasure chest a little more interesting, and these monsters will be moving around the dungeon so tread carefully brave adventurer.

Spiders and Cheese!
We had two very special visitors to the secret underground lab today. The first one, a terrifying doom spider who wanted to trap us in his unescapable web and eat our brains (pictured below) and our very own Cheddar* from the forums. Meanwhile, Cysero completely changed his mind about the end of the DA War leading to the Titan battle... and in a completely unexpected event (especially with only 5% left on the war) he threw away the existing monster and dialog and created something completely NEW (starting this morning) that he absolutely felt NEEDED to be in the zone. HAHAHA! I win! So here's the tale:

Originally I had you DragonLords facing down a GIANT mummy dragon. That didn't sit well with me because you've already fought one of those.

Then, last night around midnight I was at The Globe with my laptop and I realized that I had not referenced Frank Herbert's DUNE series the whole time (actually I did. See if you can find it) ! What good is a desert zone without sandworms?!

So I immediately ordered a pot of hot green tea (they don't serve tea by the pot so they gave me a coffee pot full of boiling water, four tea bags and a mug), re-wrote the entire quest, and began work on The Dunelord. I had to do sketches on a napkin and since ghost was offline I had to animate him myself. I'm very happy with the way that he came out and also very satisfied that I was able to close that quest chain with a nod to one of the most important works of literature from my young life.

I was very tempted to make him impossible, but I decided to give you a 50/50 chance if you know how to work with your dragon. Enjoy the Titanfight, DragonLords... you earned it!.

Once the war has ended and the Titanfight button moves to Zhoom's zone, it will require that you finish the entire chain before fighting The Dunelord, but for today... it's open to all DragonLords.

REALLY Special War Announcement

Just letting you guys know, I added the REALLY Special Dragon Chow to the DA War which will unlock the SandSea titan fight.

Why did I wait until now to do this? I didn't think of it until just now.

You may have noticed that the numbers jumped a bit this morning? WHY? The in-game reason is that Zhoom came in this moirning and said that he had decided to join the fight to save the people of The Sandsea. It's good to have friends!

OK! This week Rolith, Geo and I are working on a very new idea based on the maze-style dungeon from MQ.

Picture this: You go back to Lymcrest and talk to our first dwarven NPC. He gives you access to a deep underground maze style dungeon that he accidentally discovered while mining. Completeing each floor takes you one floor down, the monsters are wandering around the maze, searching for anything that could eat as food, you can find powerful temporary weapons, items (maybe even temporary classes) in trasure chests which randomly spawn. Every 5 or so floors it takes you back to the dwarven NPC, and saves your progeress so you can start back there next time. Who knows how far down it goes, what you might face along the way, what powerful temporary items you might pick up along the way?

We decided that with the conclusion of the recent Sandsea chain, we were going to have a little fun before we start the next new chain. We want to go back and take care of a few of our numerous loose ends. Starting this week, with the release of the DoomCola Machine monster in DF (remember him? He won the Design Us A Monster contest a while ago), as well as making the RoboTog pets from Voltabolt rares, buffing them and introcuding a new weaker but far eaiser to obtain pet.

We want to know what you guys really want to see next. Noxus (Doom wood, tie-in to Artix Versus the Undead video, the Necromantress etc etc), Fae (shape-shifter and DF mascot... who hasn't really appeared in the game yet, but HAS appeared in nearly every ad), or Galanoth (Some guy with a grudge against lizards). Who would you like to see when we get back to work on building the zones around Falconreach? This is your game as much as anyones. Remember that.

MEGAFRIDAY Approacheth. . .

AE has a lot planned for Friday. We've got the big End of Zone release, the DA mini-war, and the Sek-Duat battle with some new item drops.

Mechquest has a lot going on so their normal Weds release will be smaller than usual to make room for the MEGAFRIDAY release. Also THESE shirts will be going on sale Friday as well.

Happy St. patty's Day!

Just a quick note to let you guys know what we have planned for this week.

There is a boss battle coming at the end of this week and you will be able to fight in it wether ye be free or wether ye own a DA. You will be facing down Sek-Duat and you won't be alone. Zhoom will be at your side the entire time.

We're also THINKING about making a mini-war type event which will unlock The Sadnsea's titan battle. The event and (of course) the titan fight will be DA only.

Today everyone is a little bit Irish and those of us who are already pretty Irish go almost entirely Irish. It seems appropriate to mention one of the greatest and most well known Irish philosophers of all time, especially since his greatest and most well known thought has ALWAYS applied to all of the Artix Entertainment games:

Injured In The Line Of Duty

Dude... look at the size of it!

Last night Artix, Galanoth, Zhoom, Rolith and I were playing Rock Band. I started on the guitar, and I was really nailing the strum bar. I ended up giving my right thumb a blood blister that is about half the size of New Jersey. It's pretty cool.

Do you have ANY idea how long it's been since I got a blister playing video games? LIKE 15 YEARS! This tells you 2 things.. .first, my game calluses are magnificent beasts. Second... I was rawking THAT hard.

So This week's release is live. If you want to see what all the fuss is about... head to The Sandsea and play the lastest quest in Sek-Duat's continued Sandsea chain. You get to fight against Zhoom! It might be pretty hard for some of our lower level players but you should be fine if you're 15 and up, or you have your potions maxed. 6 Brand new weapons drop from the quest and they look sweet if I do say so myself.

The Gold Fever war has laft the game and next Monday, the mysterious prize boxes open!

Also, by popular demand, Zhoom's custom PrideLord, Zixcy, has been added to the pet section of my Superstore of Savings. Armor makes everything better!



Most of you will have figured this out by now but I'll tell the ones who are distracted by the shiny new Zixcy... next week you battle Sek-Duat XV (and probably a titan of come sort).

SUPER DESIGN NOTES DAY
I missed you! So let us catch up today in an extra super long, typo and grammatical catastrophy filled post from the heart.

Escape from LA
It was pretty easy, I took a plane
I was in Los Angeles for the wedding of a good friend of Warlic and myself. It was beautiful and no one was brutally mauled by bears. Meanwhile, Warlic was in New York at a different wedding of a couple with ironically the same names. Between the two of our trips there was a lost driver's license (please send if you happen to find it), at least one towed car, a number of VERY "wrong turns" and the unexpressable satisfaction and happiness you feel when a close friend marries the love of his life. It was a great trip!

Zhoom Boss Fight (This Week!)
You may have taken down a Dragon, slain a Vampire, and stood up against a Death Knight -- but defeating Zhoom will not be so easy! He is cunning, daring and FAST! In this week's upcoming quest you will at long last get to test your skills to the max in our first ever multi-part fight! Woah, every sentance in this post ends in a !! This must be an incredibly exciting release!!! Question! How many !!!!!!!!!!!!'s do you need before you need to start using some sort of exclamation point notation! Like, for example: Groovy!x5 which would be Groovy! Groovy! Groovy! Groovy! Groovy! Hmmm, what can we call this ! notation?.... perhaps Exclamation + Notation or.... Exclation!?

This weeks battlle with Zhoom is going to be AWESOME!x10
(My e-throat hurts from this... perhaps I should place this 3rd mug of coffee... back... down.... on.... the table... and slowly.... slowly... back... away....)

Zhoom's Project
You likely do not know this, but the real life Zhoom -- in addition to coding DragonFable, MechQuest, <secret project>, drumming for the band, and training at the gym with me -- is also taking classes for his Masters in Computer Science*!x5 For his last project that he recently turned in, he pretty much wrote his own version of Google Maps in C#. It was graphical, funcational and really impressive! Compared to his fellow students work his project REALLY stood out. It was definately a A+++++++++++++ project..... which is why we were so suprised when it came back with with a 8% penalty from the TA!

What could he possibly lose 8% for you ask? The TA said is was because his code had no //comments! *gasp* (Comments are little notes that say what the code does and makes it easier for someone else to read your code) Zhoom was pretty mad. Now, I am not making this up and I certainly advise against writing letters like this to important people in charge of your grades... but LOL, Zhoom wrote the TA back and said "I work at Artix Entertainment, we do not waste time writing comments :-)"** I laughed really hard, but... um... why do I feel so guiltly suddenly?

* We are pretty sure he is one of those terminator machines sent back in time to build games until he is ready to construct Skynet.
** ...or design documents, or organizational charts, or project specification documents, or maps to the secret treasure we buried.. um... somewhere.... hmmm, wish I had a map.

Cooking on the Backburner!
Mmmmmm... it smells gooooood
When I was young, my Father taught me that "the only way to fail is to give up." Perhaps that is why I idolize characters like Goku from DragonBall Z and Luffy from One Piece -- they NEVER give up! Due to a slew of unexpected issues many of my projects got hurled onto the backburner during the last two weeks. Most visibly was the Comic which I expected to release for you last week. We have a lot of things in the works -- new T-shirts (Including MechQuest house shirts, then DragonLord shirts), a new minigame (not to mention some old ones... alas poor Punch'em Crunch'em Undead and Speak and Slay), the tv show (moving slowwwwwwwwwwwww), the art book, DragonFable Housing/Castles, MechQuest Starships & Planets, and... not to mention <secret project> So what do you do when you fall behind and things start stacking up? <thinks> Hmmm, I know! Let us make this multiple choice:

A.) Get back in there, work harder, smarter, and never give up!
B.) Call in for some help (reinforcements) and make it happen!
C.) Nominate Cysero to run for President!
D.) All of the Above
E.) All of the Above including "D.) All of the Above"

Zhowdowns and Giants.
This week, you will be forced into a rather compromising situation in your search for the Orb of Light.

Sek-Duat XV sends you after Zhoom.

This will be an epic battle (of course), and a great way to see which of you is the greater ranger. Unless you're not wearing the ranger armor, in which case it will be a great way to see if your (YOUR CLASS) skills are a match for Zhoom's ranger skills.

Ghost is working on the versus version of Zhoom right now and one of his attacks will summon his ranger pet (Zixy, an armored PrideLord!) to attack his enemies.

This is one fight that you're not going to want to miss.

In other news, Alces and I went to the They Might Be Giants show last night and it RULED! If you haven't had a chance to catch them live, it's a great show. Something else to add to your Do Not Miss list.

Ancient Monsters and Mini-Games!

The release is LIVE!

This week we have some interesting stuff for you. First, in The Sandsea, Sek-Duat XV has been contacted by one of the rebels who wants to turn TRAITOR!

What do you do? Do you bring Sek-Duat SV the traitor and betray the rebellion, or do you stand with the rebels and risk blowing your cover with the emperor of The Sandsea?

You also get to fight a new monster called the Anubis Knight. This ancient monster has the ability to shield himself AND he regens health EVERY ROUND! It will be a tough fight, good luck heroes. 50% Drop rate of a pretty cool looking helm.

Also new this week is our new Mini-Game, Fires Over Oaklore. You will new find Sir Baumbard, a retired DragonLord, right outside Oaklore Keep. He needs you to drop a few lightbombs on invading undead hordes from the back of his dragon, Glumbert. If you can beat all 20 levels of this mini-game and thin out the invading armies enough, the Pactogonal Knights will award you a Defender's Medal. This is a guarenteed drop so now ANYONE can earn Defender's Medals outside of a war!

You know what that means? It means that the Defender's Shop will be getting some new items fiarly soon. Not this week, but soon.

Fires Over Oaklore is a really pretty addictive game. J6's art and Canon's brilliant Dragonback theme music really add to the replayability! In fact, I'm gonna go nuke more slimes!

All Is Well That Ends Abruptly...

Well, friends and neighbors, the war is over. Bet you didn't see THAT coming.

Who knew that one little green hat could cause so much trouble in so many places and times? Geo did, that's who. I mean, if you're asking me I could tell you some horror stories about exploding hats... I KNOW the dangers, first-hand... but I digress.

The green sneevilchaun hat has been sent to parts unknown, and if you don't know what I'm taking about PLAY THE WAR GOING ON RIGHT NOW!

In unrelated news, my friend Kat delivered a 7 pound 14 ounce bouncing baby boy into the world yesterday. Eamon, let me be the first to say "Welcome to the world!" and offer a few pieces of sage advivce that I wish someone had given ME when I was a few hours old.

1). Fish sticks are AWESOME and don't waste any time. As soon as you're on solid foods... GO STRIGHT FOR THE FISHSTICKS!

2). Always save your recipts, 'cause as soon as you toss one you, THAT is the second that you need it.

If not for this man, you'd be playing Dragonpong. I could tell you endless tales of the fun my friends and I have had playing the game and the genre that he pioneered, but I'm sure you have plenty of stories of your own.

High Altitude Undead Slaying!
Thank you all so much for your warm wishes and comforting words last week. It was truely appriciated. Now, we are back in action and even as you read this three seperate things are in development -- and one of them has UNDEAD in it! Cysero will be making a post shortly with a sneak peak screenshot of our newest NPC. <Chuckles> Alright, I do not know if you will find this as funny as we did... but last week when Cysero was still sick in bed I called him and he says, "I am sick of being sick. I want to stop playing all these video games and go back to work!" -- back to work, you know, where he makes and plays video games.

Let's talk a bit about Sir Baumbard, the retired Dragonlord. He has finally come home to his beloved Oaklore only to find the keep under constant assualt by droves of the mindless undead!



...Artix is busy...

NO I AM NOT! LET ME AT THEM! Please? Pretty please?

...SO, Sir Baumbard has devised a cunning plan to drop magical lightbombs onto the undead swarming outside the gate. When the lightbombs explode they start a chain reaction that causes any undead within the blast radius to also explode. This is when the aging DragonLord discovered that after years and years of fighthing beside his dragon, Glumbert, that flying through the skies on his stalwart companion's back makes him a little... queasy. That's right, Sir Baumbard the Brave gets very airsick. That's where you come in hero!



This will be the only place in DragonFable to get a Defender's Medal (as a rare drop) outside of a war! This mini-game is only part of this week's release which also includes at LEAST one new quest in The Sandsea, bringing us ever closer to the big Sandsea finale, and the ongoing war (Geopetal is putting the finishing touches on the end of the war as we speak).

This will be a fun weekend!

Gold Fever!
The release is live! A mysterious event has occured that's made the sneevils super-powered and crave gooooooolllld! They've managed to get away with the entire town treasury from Falconreach! Mayor Rayf need your help to get it back (it is an election year after all).

You be able to fight your way through the brand-new sneevilchaun monsters (while collecting loads of gold) but, be careful, those gold-hungry sneevils might just pick *your* pocket if you leave a war wave without defeating all of them! Six brand-new light weapons will drop from the special DA only quest and there are three rare chests to hunt down in the war waves*. There's also a brand new temp pet hidden somewhere...

Have fun! Just wait until you see the boss on this one**.

*The locks on those chests seem to be controlled by the color green, they won't open until lots of people are sitting at their computers wearing green!

Rocky Rocks Rock On!
Cysero is still down with the Office Plague™* so Geopetal is running the whole show for DragonFable this week! She is hard at work getting tomorrow's release ready for you. I thought I'd take the time and sneak in a DN of my very own. Some day (when they're all healthy!) I plan to make a sneak attack on the Secret Underground Lab with Tim Horton's coffee and bagels for all the staff...but not right now. Because today, a brand new event starts in AdventureQuest.....and I will give you one guess as to WHERE this special event will end**! With geopetal running DragonFable this week, just imagine what we could find! Who knows...well, geopetal might!

A Tribute to my Great Grandmother
I have shared many personal things with you over the years. The writer for the TV show told me I kept defending and talking about you (She said, "The Players") as if you were my real-life, close personal friends. Perhaps that is the way it is in my head. So I apologize if what I say next is heavier than the things normally posted here... and it is unlikely there will be any red asterisks*. My Great Grandmother "Nanny", at the age of 96 passed away yesterday. She was a wonderful woman and a big fan of Twilly**. She lived a long, laugh-filled life. Few people knew of the secret pizza recipe she sold to a major and well known pizza chain***. We have a lot of crazy stories about her in the family -- it comes with the territory of being a strong independant woman with a sharp wit and a heart warming laugh. Her last words were that everyone is doing a great job and they should keep it up. I loved my Nanny very much -- I promise to do so!

* Actually, Nanny would have laughed hwil saying, " Don't be silly. Put'em in... and made them extra funny!"
** Which is pretty much proof of wonderfullness!

Also this week, Cysero has been home sick with a tempurature of 102*. Geopetal has stepped forward to take up the challenge in filling in for the mad weapon smith** and will not only be handling the release this week -- she is even coordinating a cross-over event with AdventureQuest for you!

Post-Release Design Notes!

The release is now live and I have to say that I enjoyed making this quest more than any other quest in recent memory. The weapon drops are fun, the dialog is fun AND furthers the Sandsea plotline, and Ghost has animated my current favorite monster in DF.

If...hold up, black screen.... there, fixed that... if you haven't done Zhoom's quest chain yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! The Hawk Ranger Skill and The King of The Sandsea await!

Comic Follow-up
Holy smokes Mastin2!!!! Those were a lot of suggestions for the comic. You had a few real good zingers in there! We really like throwing a lot of ideas at the wall and waiting to see what sticks too, way to go! Everyone offered a lot of really good ideas! I agree with the posts that said players should be allowed to write for the comic too. The first comic, which features two newly chibi-fied character (who you are sure to recognize in their room that is "true to life") is being finished this weekend... so your first comic should be ready next week!

Quite Possibly The World's Greatest Invention.

I love sandwiches.

It's been a life-long love affair and if you follow my eating habits and even my work record, you can see traces of it. For two-and-a-half years I was a "Sandwich Artist" at Subway, and it was one of my favorite jobs. I took the title to heart, flipping the knives, tossing the bread in the air and catching it behind my back, squirting oil and viegar from halfway across the room and NAILING the sandwich with no splash whatsoever and flipping the salt and pepper shakers with skills that would make most hibachi chef's cry.

At first my boss kept telling me to quit, but then she saw that I was not only making good sandwiches to spec. but also drawing crowds and repeat business. She changed her mind. Good times.

My trip down the grocery aisle now results in maybe one loaf of 12 grain instead of two loaves of white, but the sandwich is still near and dear to my heart.

Hey Cysero, you might be saying, what does this have to do with DragonFable?

Lemme tell ya! This Friday you will be issued with a special invitation to Sek-Duat's Sandsea palace. The current ruler of The Sandsea has been impressed with your willingness to help Zhoom and your ability to keep up with him. He has a special task for you!

Deep within the desert lives a terrible creature called the Sandwitch. She was once one of the yaga sisters but her cruelty and dark spirit was too much for those wicked creatures. They left their sister to die in burning wastes of The Sandsea, but her wicked will to live would not be so eaisly broken. She has preyed on the people of The Sandsea for many years and Sek-Duat XV has had enough. He believes that you might be up to the task of destroying the Sandwitch. But what could have caused this change of heart in the mad power-mad emperor?

There are more secrets hidden beneath the sands, dear hero. Your journey through the dunes is FAR from over!

I am going to pitch a brand new idea to you and share some never before seen* artwork. We are thinking of making a web comic** out of the design notes! It is time for a healthy diet!
After all of those Valentines chocolates, I thought today would be a great day to talk about how to stay active, fit, and healthy as a gamer*! When I was in grade school there was only one food pyramid intend us to inform us on proper nutrition. Today, there are so many I can barely count! That is why we brought several important looking people in white lab coats** to analyze our diet and represent it as an official Food pyra.... oh my***.



* By being the perfect example of what NOT to do.
** Cysero's Rule #23: Wearing a long white lab coat instantly makes anyone a qualified, trustable scientist.
